Linking Cultures is an international exchange programme between students and lecturers from art and design schools in Beirut, Berlin, Cairo, Marrakech and Zurich.

In spring 2020, in response to the digital exchange opportunities offered by the Covid 19 pandemic, the idea of cooperation between different design and art schools from North Africa, the Middle East and Western Europe emerged. This idea has since given rise to an articulated, collaborative online programme that will now be further developed.

The theme of the student projects and lecture series in spring 2022 was “Design as Dissent”. Ten transcultural student teams developed concepts to make use of the problem-solving strength of design and contribute to the challenges of our time. A public lecture series between 8 March and 19 April accompanied the programme.
In the autumn semester, so-called “Students for Students” presentations will take place, which will contribute to the mutual understanding of the different universities and study programmes.

For the further development of the programme, the online presence will now be enhanced by a collaborative platform, and moreover a physical exchange for students and lecturers will be organised. Expanding the participating art and design schools is also being considered.
