White to White

Weiss bis Weiss,Farb-Licht-Zentrum,Farb-Licht-Zentrum

The room installation White to White consists of partition walls that have been arranged diagonally to one another in five rows. The walls have been powder-coated dull matt in the following nuances of white (NCS colours):

- Yellowish white (S 0502-Y)
- Reddish white (S 0502-R)
- White (S 0500-N) | | | | |
- Bluish white (S 0502-B)
- Greenish white (S 0502-G)

According to a programmed colour-light score the wall surfaces are illuminated with AWB (amber, white, blue) LED lamps from warm to cool white.

The installation demonstrates the great spectrum of nuances of material white hues, which vary depending on the lighting conditions.
In the process the following phenomena can be observed:

– If white light is cast over the entire installation, the differences between the material colours become evident
– If the installation is bathed in warm white light, the warm white hues seem even warmer, while the cold white hues seem greyer
– Under cool white light the cool colour hues seem even cooler, while the warm colours appear greyer

Without any way to compare them directly, the different white hues would always appear to us to be a similar shade of white due to the consistency of the colour.
The great variability of white allows for subtle design possibilities, above all in the use of different white hues and light sources in the field of architecture.
