    Bacchanalia

Diplomprojekt Praxis Kunst und Design, Profil Kunst

    Bachelor Art Education

Bacchanalia, Vivienne Heilig, Zürcher Hochschule der Künste

The essence of Bacchanalia lies in the duality of life’s contradictions as embodied by Dionysus, the Greek god of wine, theater, fertility and celebration. He symbolizes both the liberating pleasures of freedom and the inevitable consequences of excess.

In today’s age of unprecedented abundance, we are overwhelmed by the availability of instant gratifications — fast food, social media, gaming and consumerism — which disrupt our natural balance of pleasure and pain.

The central focus of Vivienne Heilig’s work is to convey this duality through brushwork, composition, facial expressions, and body language. While the colored studies served as explorations, she ultimately chose charcoal for the large-scale piece. Its tactile immediacy and unrefined nature allow for a raw, instinctive portrayal of the intensity and unpredictability inherent in experiences of excess.
