The 25-meter long room installation Colour-Light Keyboard consists of 15 wall sections that have been painted grey on one side and coloured with one of the following highly-pigmented monochrome colours on the other:
- White
- Yellow
- Green
- Red
- Ultramarine
- Black
The surfaces are illuminated according to an animated colour-light score with different coloured LED lamps. The light varies in a continuous loop that consists of the following pre-programmed phases:
– White light (RGB colours):
The colours appear as we perceive them in everyday situations
– Individual wall colours are superimposed with light of the same colour
The colours appear to be highly saturated, and to some degree self-illuminated
– Individual wall colours are superimposed with light of the respective complementary colour
The surface colours appear greyer
– In the last part of the endless loop a so-called “colour wind” causes the installation to pulsate
Because it is possible to enter the installation the dynamic colour-light interactions can be directly experienced in a spatial context. In this way the installation demonstrates the great dramatic potential of these kind of colour-light compositions in theatre-based arts.
