The Colour-Light Cabin is a room installation that can be entered and that dynamically demonstrates the contrast effects of coloured light:
- Simultaneous light-dark contrast
- Simultaneous contrast
- Colour shadows
- Afterimages
These phenomena show the degree to which the perception of a colour depends on its environment and can be influenced by a previous colour impression.
In everyday situations the influences of the spatial and temporal contexts on the effect of a colour are seldom consciously considered, as a direct comparison is generally not possible.
In order to illustrate the extent to which the colours in an installation with coloured light depend on the context, a cabin with a partition wall and window have been built so that a front and back room are created. Both chambers are then illuminated independently of one another with dynamic RGB LED lines.
From the front section the window is perceived as a central colour-light field, the context of which is created by the colour of the light from the front room. Although some light from the front section will always seep into the back room and vice versa, the individual phenomena can be clearly observed.
The construction makes it possible to perceive colour contrasts within a closed environment.
