The practical research project sought to promote artistic exchange by means of theatre, in the form an intercultural encounter with contemporary Japanese theatre, and emerged as a collaboration between Zurich University of the Arts and the Morita Office in Tokyo.

The project reviewed and compared acting resources and traditions at an intercontinental level: What are the communicative codes on which Japanese theatre is based? How does a Japanese actor show emotions? How does a joint production take shape in which those involved have to overcome not just linguistic but also enormous cultural differences too? The research focused on investigating the methods used and the exchange of experience between traditions in the specific context of two cultural spaces.
