Since 2003, the artists-in-labs program has been facilitating artistic research by way of long-term residencies for artists in scientific laboratories and research institutes. While many collaborations aim at artists who have concluded their studies already, the MASTER SERIES format has been set up in collaboration with the Master in Transdisciplinary Studies to allow master students of ZHdK to work together with scientists in a laboratory setting. Light artist CHi-yung wong participated in the artists-in-labs MASTER SERIES pilot project in 2017.
Light artist and ZHdK student Chi-yung Wong has collaborated with neuroscientists, computer scientists, psychologists and psychiatrists of the Translational Neuromodeling Unit (UZH/ETH) and the Sanatorium Kilchberg for his residency in the context of the artists-in-labs MASTER SERIES pilot project. After a phase of examination and exchange with the scientific disciplines, the next step was to transform the results of his artistic research into an immersive light installation. The installation "To See a World in a Grain of Sand" was shown in autumn 2018 at the Theatre de Liège in Belgium.
The artists-in-labs program conceived and accompanied Wong's residency, which was carried out as part of his master's degree in Transdisciplinary Studies at ZHdK, and also collaborated with the artist in the development of the installation.
The artists-in-labs MASTER SERIES - pilot project Chi-yung Wong is a cooperation with the Master in Transdisciplinary Studies of ZHdK.
