    Ambisonics Theorie

Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST)

Ambisonics theory is complicated, difficult to teach and not completed yet. Moreover the symbols and the formats used are not standardized. The text "Ambisonics Einführung" is an attempt to present some aspects of Ambisonics in a comprehensible way with diagrams and animations. The most important nomenclature and concepts are mentioned and compared with one another and the mathematical formulas and functions are explained.

The text "Ambisonics Einführung" is an attempt to present some aspects of Ambisonics in a comprehensible way with diagrams and animations. «Decoding Second Order Ambisonics to 5.1 Surround Systems»
In this text the problems are described which arise by decoding B-format files for the asymmetric setup of 5.1 systems and different solutions are proposed. The text is only available from the AES. (see below: Martin Neukom: Decoding Second Order Ambisonics to 5.1 Surround Systems)

    «Ambisonics Equivalent Panning AEP»
This text describes in detail the panning which results from ambisonic en- and decoding. The text (only in English) is available as a Mathematica notebook (download) and as a pdf-file. (see below).

The results were first published in: Martin Neukom: Ambisonic Panning. In: AES 123st Convention, New York, NY, USA, 2007 und Martin Neukom / Jan C. Schacher: Ambisonics Equivalent Panning AEP. In: ICMC, Belfast, 2008. In the downloads section you can find the implemtation as MaxMSP-External called ambipanning~ by Jan Schacher.

The text is available as a Mathematica Player notebook and as a pdf file (all files can be downloaded below).
