    At ZHdK, research is housed in its research units and research initiatives. Research is conducted in the five institutes and four research units of the five departments. They all emphasize research and research-based services. 

    The structure of research management at ZHdK is set out in the Research Dossier. This includes the Research Affairs Office and the Research Affairs Committee. The dossier is managed by Marijke Hoogenboom, Department of Performing Arts and Film. 

      Research Affairs Office

      The Research Affairs Office is the central organizational unit that manages and executes the activities of the dossier. It carries out concept development and strategic work, coordinates interfaces with other ZHdK units and supervises research at ZHdK across the board and in all aspects. The Head of Research Affairs is Dr. Beate Bรถckem, M.P.A.

      The Research Affairs Office is split into the following areas: 

      • Head of Research Affairs Office

        The Head of the Research Affairs Office is responsible for establishing the strategic, conceptual and operational framework conditions of the research service area for the Research Dossier. This includes the preparation and implementation of internal and external measures, major development projects and university policy objectives in the research area as well as national and international committee and lobby work for research in the arts. The Head of the Research Affairs Office acts proactively and collaboratively on behalf of the Head of Dossier and of the President.

      • Research Database

        The research database acts as a central research information system and is the main tool for making output, research findings and projects in the research performance area visible. 

      • Research Communication

        Research communications consist of the design, maintenance, and further development of different internal and external means of communication. It is the interface to the University Communications Office, topic scout for the central communication channels, and the support and contact point for researcher visibility.  

      • Grants Office

        The Grants Office is the central contact point for all questions relating to competitive research funding programmes and international grants. It offers ZHdK researchers personal advice and administrative support in obtaining grants, dealing with financial processes and managing national and international public research funding. The Grants Office searches for suitable funding opportunities and develops appropriate courses for ZHdK researchers.  

      • Innovation in the Arts

        Innovation at ZHdK  is multifaceted, manifesting itself in a variety of formats and evolving beyond conventional categories and development processes. ZHdK creates space for creative progress and promotes a culture of open collaboration, mindful further development, and social change. 

      • Open Science

        ZHdK supports Open Science in order to make its research in the arts and design publicly accessible. Open Science contributes to making research at ZHdK more transparent, accessible, and networked with services ranging from research data management to Open Access. 

      • PhD Centre

        The PhD Centre is responsible for providing university-wide support and coordination of the development of the PhD area. Together with the PhD Commission, it develops key framework conditions and quality standards for the promotion of young talent across ZHdK, serves as the central contact point for any questions and concerns related to PhD studies, is responsible for operational and administrative activities, and offers interdepartmental PhD courses and events. 

      • Knowledge and Technology Transfer

        Knowledge and technology transfer in the arts broadens current understanding of technological innovation. A range of different artistic intervention formats at ZHdK create socially effective transfer, which is implemented via accessible performances, presentations, exhibitions, museums, workshops, posters and numerous other forms of presentation in the real and digital world.
