    Laura von Niederhäusern

    Laura von Niederhäusern

Laura von Niederhäusern (*1984) grew up by the Rhine, where the river flows dark green through the woods and forms a border with the neighbouring country.

As an artist-researcher and climate activist, Laura von Niederhäusern develops situational practices that explore the relational processes of living beings and their possibilities of experience. Through workshops, research groups and collaborations with civil movements, her artistic practice takes the form of public interventions, ritual practices and transitional objects. She is particularly interested in alternative ways of life, asynchronicities and indigenous ways of perceiving one’s place in the world.

Laura v. Niederhäusern studied fine art (MFA 2012) at the Haute école d’art et de design – Genève. In 2023, she received the State Prize from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research for her artistic dissertation (practice-based PhD) as part of the collaborative programme between the University of Art and Design Linz and the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). Since 2016, she has been working and teaching at the Department of Fine Arts at ZHdK as a researcher at the Institute of Contemporary Art Research (IfCAR) and co-leads the PhD group ‘Transforming Environments’.
