Biography

Madli Marje Gildemann (Madli Marje Sink, 1994) studied composition at the Georg Ots music school with Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes and Andrus Kallastu from 2016 until 2018. Currently, she’s obtaining her master’s degree from the Zurich University of Arts in the film, theatre and media program. Her main source of inspiration is exploring ecoacoustics and various biological processes and finding new ways to express those processes in music.

Recent commissions have led to collaborations with Klangforum Wien, Mondrian Ensemble, Adelphi String Quartet, Estonian Percussion Quartet, Cyberstudio, Ensemble Synaesthesis, Sinfonietta Riga, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble U: and others. In 2022 she won the 2nd prize at the International Rostrum of Composers in Palermo, Sicily, in the under-30 category with her piece “Transpiration”. She also received the ISCM Young Composer Prize in Cape Town, South Africa in 2023 for her piece “Osmosis”, which was performed at the annual ISCM World Music Days. In 2024 she was the recipient of the LHV Composition Prize for her piece "Nocturnal Migrants"
