Biography
My name is Lola Knechtel Subirós, and I was born in Barcelona in the year 2000. I pursued a Humanities degree at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona, focusing on Modern and Contemporary Studies. My academic work, particularly dedicated to examining modern art and female subjectivity, culminated in a thesis on the androgynous and queer bodies in Oskar Schlemmer’s Bauhausbühne. Over the years, I've played key roles in various projects and galleries, including interning as a gallery assistant at Joan Prats Gallery, organizing the Laclandestina festival, and collaborating at L’Antiga Farinera as a gallery assistant.
I further developed my curatorial expertise at TBA21 Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary, where I was involved in the exhibitions "Remedios: Directions to the Old Ways" (2023) and "Ecologies of Peace" (2024). These projects challenged me to delve into postcolonial legacies, explore the complexities of the escalating environmental crises, and engage in a shared quest for restorative paths that can transform our way of interacting with the world.
I see art as a catalyst for reinvention, healing, and fostering solidarity. At this crucial moment of rethinking the world, what role can culture play? The MA in Cultural Critique and Curatorial Studies at ZHdK in Zurich is the ideal environment to explore these pressing questions. I am thrilled to continue my academic journey at ZHdK and contribute to this vibrant community!
