Biography
Lara Maia (London, 1998) is a transdisciplinary artist whose artistic practices go from performance and choreography to drawing, photography, and, more recently, sculpture and video. Some of her works are the dance piece "This isn't quite what love is about" (2020), the performances "bodily encounters" (2019) and "xx" (2021), and the multidisciplinary project "self-template" (2023). She is a founding member of the collective TETO. Lara has developed performative practices in dialogue with the work of Antรณnio Bolota and Hugo Canoilas. She has been involved in participative projects such as "ENTER" and "What is the future of the cultural institution?".
She holds a degree from the Escola Superior de Danรงa, took part in the "Mutantes" programme (by BoCA biennial), attended the "Writing for creators course" with Sara Carinhas, and attended various workshops such as "Photo-Performance" with Wiebke Leister and "Participate for what?" with Hugo Cruz. Lara Maia works regularly with Joana Franco and has also collaborated with several other artists, for example, Joaquim Leal, Filipa Alves, Ana Frias, or Joรฃo Almeida. Her work has been presented in contexts such as the Fรกbrica do Braรงo de Prata Art Biennial, the FBAUL Gallery, Mascarenhas Gregรณrio Theatre, A Estrada Festival, and InShadow.
