Biography
Juan David Toro (Huelva, 2001) began playing the saxophone at the age of 10 under the guidance of Professor Diego García Pérez and Fco. José Gil Ramírez. At the age of 13, he started his professional studies, working with professors Luis Hidalgo Carrillo and Miguel Ángel Enamorado in Seville. He graduated from the Granada Conservatory in 2023, studying under Professor Javier Linares Leyva.
He has received numerous awards as a soloist, including First Prize in the Ciudad de Arjona competition (2016), First Prize in the II Gran Canaria International Saxophone Competition (2022), Second Prize in the Alpen Sax Festival competition (2023), Third Prize in the Josip Nochta Competition (2024), First Prize in the Mediterranean Sax Competition (2024) and the Rahn Kulturfonds Award (2025). He has also been awarded in chamber music, winning First Prize in the Concurso Nacional de Mujeres Compositoras (Córdoba, 2022) with a saxophone quartet.
He has performed as a guest saxophonist with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (OCG) and the Joven Orquesta Sinfónica de Granada (JOSG).
On May 2023, he was admitted to study the Master in Performance at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in Zurich, situated in Zürich (Switzerland), under the guidance of Lars Mlekusch.
