Biography
Berit Seidel is an artist, researcher and lecturer. Currently she is a PhD Candidate at the University of Arts Linz and teaches there as Senior Artist at the department of space&designstrategies. Berit is a founding member of the artist collective U5 (www.u5.92u.ch) and has exhibited internationally. U5 opposes the idea of genius and challenges modernist ways of thinking, making and style. They engage with the characteristics of collective modes of action and perception in artistic production. Working techniques are invented that activate principles of reuse, non-use, play, repair, and collage. U5 has a penchant for everyday materials, for plastic, litter, and glitter. To overcome modernist understandings of art, U5 seeks for wider horizons, e.g. by involving in scientific research projects that challenge our colonial heritage.
