The sculpture «John and Jane» quotes an urban mini-ramp that the artist is trying to conquer. She wears iron shoes that restrict her movements. The graduate refers to the discourse of gore and horror fiction and questions the role of injuries in society. She interprets that scars are seen as trophies for boys, while for girls they are stigmatised as shameful experiences. Kyungeun Son believes that personal trauma discussed in a comprehensive way can touch the realm of collective trauma and vice versa. Trauma is inadvertently fetishised in art when attempts are made to overcome or ignore it. Kyungeun Son conveys these thoughts through performances in which she uses sculptures as props and backdrops. The thesis exceeded the jury's expectations in terms of originality, confidence, execution and presentation.
