With โ€œLux Carneโ€ by Bachelor Film graduate Gabriel Grosclaude and โ€œRevierโ€ by Bachelor Film student Felix Scherrer, ZHdK is represented with two films at the renowned Locarno Film Festival.

At this yearโ€™s Locarno Film Festival, the films โ€œLux Carneโ€ and โ€œRevierโ€ will celebrate their world premieres. At the same time, the films have been selected for the โ€œPardi di domaniโ€ section in the national competition and are in the running for the โ€œBest Swiss Newcomer Awardโ€, which is endowed with CHF 15,000.

In โ€œLux Carneโ€ a strict examination process regulates the populationโ€™s meat consumption: anyone who wants to eat meat must kill an animal. The young reporter Elie sets out to document the process in the slaughterhouse. However, only those who participate are allowed inside. Elie must face the act of killing. When she stands before the animal, her convictions are put to the test.

In the short film โ€œRevierโ€ Felix Scherrer narrates a documentary about a summer walk through Zurich that ends in a police check. Parks emerge from prison ruins, old buildings give way to new ones. On the first of May, rubber bullets fly, and a person is blinded.

Further ZHdK involvement at the Film Festival:

The documentary film โ€œThe Miraculous Transformation of the Working Class into Foreignersโ€ by Film Director Samir is also celebrating its world premiere in Locarno. The film was produced by Master Creative Producing alumnus Levin Vieth under the roof of Dschoint Ventschr. The Director of Photography was Film alumna Natascha Vavrina, and the editing was done by Master Film student Enrico Frรถhlich.

Additionally, the feature film โ€œElectric Childโ€ by Simon Jaquemet will have its world premiere on the Piazza Grande. Jaquemet completed his film studies at ZHdK in 2005 and achieved great success with โ€œChriegโ€ and โ€œThe Innocentโ€. Film alumnus Gabriel Sandru contributed as the Director of Photography on โ€œElectric Childโ€.

During the festival, the film school event โ€œFILM FOUNDRY: Young Swiss Cinemaโ€ will take place. Six Swiss film school will have the opportunity to present their films to a broad international audience. From ZHdK, the films โ€œStuta la Luuciaโ€ by Simona Volpe, โ€œCapital Painsโ€ by Balazs Gyenes and โ€œDโ€™ailleursโ€ by Camille Briffod will be shown.

The Locarno Film Festival is taking place from 7 to 17 August 2024.
