The «Swiss Design Network Symposium» will take place on 4 and 5 December 2024 at the ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne (HES-SO). The event is specifically dedicated to design research and offers a varied programme with exciting speakers.

This symposium questions the status of design within the academic system and examines how knowledge is produced by design disciplines. The conference aims to provide examples of virtuous practices and to create an arena for a discussion on the relevance of design research as a framework in the medium and long terms. Which experiences and practices are exemplary? Which possibilities does research through design unfold? What can we learn from them, and how can we further implement design research into research projects and activities?

The Department of Design and the Institute for Design Research (IDR) at ZHdK are delighted to be represented at the symposium by Sarah Owens (Head of Visual Communication and President of the Swiss Design Network), Anna Lisa Martin-Niedecken (Head of the Institute for Design Research and founder of the «Digital Health Design Living Lab») and Luke Franzke (PhD Candidate and Research Associate Major in Interaction Design).

More information is available on the website.
The event is free and open to the public. Click here to register.
