Will the public make art-critical judgements in the future? What role could systemic criticism play in art criticism? Will decentralization and the multiplication of publishing formats lead to a radical democratization of art-critical discourse? What forms of concrete, situated and context-sensitive art criticism are conceivable? To what extent is a future-oriented art criticism involved in critical-emancipatory politics?
“The Future Is Unwritten” brings together current approaches to committed art criticism. The publication focuses on underestimated or overlooked potentials and points to a promising future for art-critical practice. Contrary to fatalistic, absolutizing and gloating end-time scenarios, the book thus shows possible directions of an as yet unwritten future.
