Laura Virรกg Bรบza is studying pop and school music with electric bass as her main instrument. She wants to pass on her love of music and inspire others. At ZHdK, she is learning how to communicate her passion.

In addition to theory subjects and workshops in the field of pop music, I am studying didactics and pedagogy for teaching school music later on. This is how I am building the ideal foundation for my future as a musician and teacher. When I think back to my school days, I realise how important my teachers were and what an influence they had on me and my learning. Now I can embark on this exciting journey myself.

My current projects include singer/songwriter bands, such as those of my good friends and fellow students ยซTINKAยป and ยซLaviniaยป. In addition to regular choir accompaniment, I can indulge my love of jazz in several big bands. I am part of the ยซTrigger Concert Big Bandยป and the ยซBig Band Kanti Wattwilยป, which play great projects under the direction of Martin Winiger.

Why am I studying electric bass? Funnily enough, I completed my Matura in music with the clarinet, even though I had already passed the entrance exams at the ZHdK. The electric bass was a secondary instrument for me for a long time until I started playing in my cantonal school big band. When I realised that the bass forms the perfect bridge between harmony instruments such as the piano and guitar and rhythm instruments such as drums and percussion, that was the starting point for my passion for this instrument. And most importantly: without bass, there's no fun!

What I would change at the ZHdK: There is an incredible atmosphere at the Toni-Areal; you are constantly surrounded by creativity and art. There is always a lot going on on campus. But I also feel the need for silence and tranquillity. A clear place of retreat where you can make yourself comfortable would be a great addition to my turbulent everyday student life.
