Epistemologies of Aesthetic Practices, 2021โ2024
As part of a call for proposals from Swissuniversities for the development of cooperative doctoral programmes between universities and universities of applied sciences, the research laboratory ยซEpistemologies of Aesthetic Practicesยป of ETH Zurich, the University of Zurich and ZHdK, based at the Collegium Helveticum, has been approved for the period 2021โ2024. A total of eleven professors from the three institutions are involved in the project (Andreas Kilcher, Philip Ursprung, Elisabeth Bronfen, Fabienne Liptay, Sylvia Sasse, Florian Dombois, Germโn Toro-Pรฉrez, Michael Hampe, Dorota Sajewska, Jรถrn Peter Hiekel, Director: Judith Siegmund). The laboratory is based in Zurich.
The programme, which began its work in 2017, offers doctoral students regular research colloquia, writing retreats, public events, interdisciplinary and inter-university networking, workshops and individual mentoring by supervisors and external experts. The participating universities and professors provide the supervision of projects up to the doctoral level.
Applications are open to interested doctoral students from the fields of philosophy, humanities, aesthetics and art theory (in the fields of composition, music theory and performance practice, theatre, dance, exhibition, film, visual arts, media art, performance, installation, art education, design, etc.). Applications from university graduates and graduates of universities of applied sciences are equally welcome. Please submit applications by 28 February 2022 at the latest.
Application prerequisites are an outstanding degree in a humanities or artistic subject as well as a doctoral project in the subject area of the program. In addition, good language skills in German and English are expected.
Note that neither stipends nor paid positions can be offered as part of the program.
The application documents to be submitted include:
- convincing proposal sketching the topic and methodology (no more than 10 pages) of the research project
- a letter of motivation about the intention to do a PhD
- curriculum vitae, if applicable, a list of publications and/or an overview of the artistic works
- ideas for possible supervisors
- copies of diplomas.
