Cinémémoire is a freely accessible and intuitively navigable oral history archive on Swiss film history. The project brings together biographical interviews, some of which are openly accessible for the first time, with transcripts, photos, texts and other documents so as to contextualize the interviews and thereby create added value for users. Access to the videos in high resolution for professional and commercial film and television productions requires the consent and approval of the project management.

A fresh, unbiased look at an existing project is always helpful, especially with regard to intuitive, logical and clear user guidance.

      Thomas Schärer, project leader

With the funding for “Innovative Publishing in Open Science”, additional interviews were made accessible, the user-friendliness of the archive was improved and some processes and navigation paths were optimised. One particular challenge was the age of the recordings, some of which dated back up to eighteen years. Although all interviewees had given their consent to publication during the initial data collection, the project management re-contacted all those who could still be found to obtained consent for the integral publication of the videos, which had not been planned originally.

For further information about the project, please contact the project leader, Thomas Schärer; for information on the funding for “Innovative Publishing in Open Science”, please contact, Irene Ragaller, publication support.
