Classical music, jazz and pop dominate the reception of music in Western culture - "Beyond Music" offers the opportunity to explore musical art in alternative contexts. In 2024, special interest will be focussed on the traditions of Africa and India, combined with the question of how these continue to have an impact in the present.

All events on site and via livestream
Beyond Music starts its third season with "Present Resonating Past". As guests of the ZHdK, cultural scientists from India and Africa are putting the concept of music and art up for discussion. The debate will be continued in courses with students from various disciplines (choral conducting, dance, cultural analysis and mediation). Dr Josephine Ebiuwa Abbe describes African art as holistic. There is no boundary between the artistic disciplines (music, visual arts, dance) - this holistic approach to art is to be explicitly presented at the ZHdK.
In co-operation with the Museum Rietberg Zurich and the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz.
