Why are you doing a bachelorโ€™s in fine arts?

Well, it offers great freedom. We can focus entirely on our projects and practice. I didnโ€™t have to commit to a medium right away, but could first try out what best suits me.

Is the programme living up to your expectations?

Definitely. Iโ€™ve already developed a lot since starting my degree. I work mainly with installations, conceptual art and readymades, that is, with everyday objects that I call art. I have found myself completely and am very happy.

Are you working on a particular project?

Iโ€™m planning an exhibition with other artists from our department on the theme of โ€œArt and the Home Environmentโ€. The house where I grew up is being demolished. Before that happens, Iโ€™d like to organize an exhibition there. We want to show the interfaces between art and home, and showcase the home as an institution.

Do we need art? And if so, why?

Definitely. Art will always exist. Itโ€™s a โ€œfunctionโ€ that will keep fulfilling humanity. I donโ€™t need to make art to express myself, but itโ€™s a way to communicate certain issues.

What would you change about ZHdK and Zurich?

ZHdK and Zurich could be a bit more open and inviting. There are certain art circles, which is very nice because you always meet the same people. But youโ€™re caught in a kind of โ€œbubble,โ€ which isnโ€™t very integrating.

    What energizes you most?

I enjoy drinking lots of coffee. I often get my artistic energy and inspiration from being โ€œangryโ€ about a topic. That motivates me to point out grievances that I think we should talk about. My art always deals with socio-political issues that matter to me.
