    • Archive

      The archive has its own research and consultation area. Archive documents and media for special use are available to view the day after the order has been placed and are reserved for 7 days. A form must be completed and signed before using items from the archives on site. ZHdK members can find information and instructions on information management and archiving at the university via the intranet.

    • Campus Card

      The ZHdK Campus Card serves as both a user card for borrowing items at the self-service desks and a prepaid card for the copier. There are top-up stations at various locations in the campus building.

    • Collecting items

      Media that have been reserved or requested from other libraries will be kept in the pick-up area for 7 days. The collection ticket shows the last three digits of the phone number and the first three letters of your surname. The media must be checked out at the self-service desk before you leave.

    • Copier / scanner

      A number of multifunction devices for photocopying, for university members also scanning (to send via email) and printing, are available. A ZHdK campus card is required to use these facilities. People who do not have a campus card should ask at the information desk. Prices can be found in the fees regulation. There are also powerful A2 scanners available on all floors, the completed scans from which can be saved onto USB sticks

    • Fees

      The tariffs for fees and chargeable services can be found in the fees regulation. Overdue fees and charges will be invoiced by the collection service of SLSP or ZHdK (for archive services). It is not possible to pay by cash or card on site.

    • Getting around / orientation information system

      There are display boards on all floors that provide orientation information about locations and services. An orientation information system linked to the NEBIS catalogue displays the exact locations of media. It can also be used to search specifically for shelf numbers, fields of study or infrastructure facilities. 

    • Information desk

      For information on operations and services, call the information desk directly during opening hours on +41 (0)43 446 44 70 or send an email. Issues that take longer to resolve will be accepted, forwarded to specialists and responded to via email. Questions about research techniques can be sent directly to zvm.vx@muqx.pu.

    • Internet

      Internet access is in accordance with the ZHdK IT resources rules of use. Authentication for accessing the network is carried out via the university login. External users with their own devices can self-register by SMS to gain access to the WLAN for one day. Members of other universities can access it via Eduroam.

    • Journals

      In the journal lounge on the gallery floor, the current issues of over 200 journals subscribed to by ZHdK are out on display. You can find the current yearโ€™s issues on the shelf behind the display. Around 60 titles subscribed to by the ZHAW university library can be found in the entrance floor in shelf E47. Issues from earlier years are available on the basement floor. Journals in book and bound form are reference only and cannot be borrowed.

    • Lean Library

      Lean Library is a handy browser plug-in that accompanies Internet research and shows the way to the best possible access to e-resources. It warns of sites for which the ZHdK does not have a license or indicates where access to electronic resources is free of charge.

    • Lending

      MIZ is a specialist public library. A valid, individual user card is required each time you borrow an item. Borrowers can check out media at the self-service desks. The lending period is normally 28 days for books and music scores. The initial lending period will automatically be extended five times, provided that the media have not been requested by somebody else. The lending period can also be extended manually by 28 days each via the online user account. The lending period for DVDs and CDs is 14 days. An extension of this is not possible. After the lending period has come to an end, a reminder will be sent by e-mail free of charge. Following this, up to three chargeable overdue notices will be sent at intervals of 7 opening days. Media provided for collection or use in the archive will be reserved for 7 days.

    • Listening stations / Fonoteca / FARO

      Stations are available on the gallery floor for listening to CDs and LPs or for digitalizing records. MIZ also has a station from the Swiss National Sound Archives, where you can research and listen to digitalized items from Switzerlandโ€™s acoustic archive, as well a terminal to search SRFโ€™s media database FARO.

      Information on FARO: Since SRF introduced a new firewall at the end of 2015, there have sometimes been problems in accessing the SRF media database, making it impossible to play programmes. SRF is working on a solution. Part of the archive can be accessed in various broadcasting formats via the SRF website.

    • Lockers

      Lockers of various sizes can be found to the right of the information desk on the ground floor. The lockers are intended for use during the daytime and must be emptied in the evening before the library closes.

    • Lost property

      Any items left in MIZ will be handed over to the Toni Campus central lost property office, which is located at reception on level 3.

    • MIZ Video online (nanoo.tv)

      MIZ Video online contains TV programs that the MIZ records using the web-based video recorder nanoo.tv. The films are listed in swisscovery and can be accessed online in streaming format. Direct access for members of the university is via the Switch edu-ID login, for external private users via the Switch edu-ID in conjunction with the SLSKey authorization of the MIZ.

    • New acquisitions

      A selection of our new acquisitions can be found in shelves E100 on the entrance floor. The entire list or lists according to subjects areas can be accessed via the new acquisitions page. 

    • Reserving media

      Media items which are out on loan can be reserved on the swisscovery catalogue. As soon as the item has been returned by the previous user, it will be made ready for collection and you will be informed by e-mail that it is ready for you to pick up. It is not possible to reserve media items which are not out on loan.

    • Returning items

      The media return facility in the entrance area can also be used outside opening hours.

    • Semester resources

      Semester resources labelled with the lecturerโ€™s name can be found in shelf E8 in the copier/scanner area on the ground floor. During the period for which these media have been allocated as semester resources, they can only be used, copied and scanned at MIZ. They cannot be borrowed. Reservations will be processed once the semester resource allocation has expired.

    • Sending by post

      For a fee, MIZ posts media from its own collection to the address associated with the user account. This excludes large-scale media, music and audiovisual media (DVDs and CDs).

    • Shlep library bags

      Shlep bags help you to carry and transport media from the shelves. The bags can only be used within the library.

    • SLSKey (formerly PURA)

      SLSKey enables individuals to access selected electronic resources, which are usually only available to members of the university or institution. The offered e-resources are thus not only accessible within the library, but from everywhere. The MIZ offers access with SLSKey for MIZ Video online (nanoo.tv) and National licences.

    • SLSP-courier

      Media from many swisscovery libraries can be ordered via the paid courier service and collected at the MIZ or any other library affiliated to the SLSP lending network. The SLSP-Courier is offered by libraries from all parts of Switzerland.

      You can follow us on our Blog MIZaktuell (in German). We welcome visits and feedback.

    • Suggest a purchase

      We are happy to receive online requests to purchase media associated with ZHdKโ€™s areas of teaching and research. You will receive a response within a week. If we purchase the document, it will be reserved for you and you will receive an e-mail inviting you to collect it. Lecturers can send their literature lists directly to the acquisition department.

    • swisscovery

      As research platform, swisscovery combines the media holdings of 490 scientific libraries in Switzerland. It offers a concise search and easy access to resources.

      During the one-time registration process, the library account is linked to your SWITCH edu-ID. The existing library card can - if desired - continue to be used.

    • Training and courses

      Training options consist of individual consultations, training sessions which are integrated into the curriculum and occasional courses and guided tours. More information

    • User regulation

      The user regulation provides information about the binding rules of use and MIZ regulations.

    • VPN client

      Accessing most of the databases, e-journals and e-books for which MIZ holds a licence is subject to IP checks. A VPN client needs to be installed on your own computer if you would like to access them outside of the ZHdK network.

    • Workstations / Computers

      MIZ has around 120 workstations with a network connection (LAN and WLAN) in various areas. There are six cabins (carrels) for 1โ€“2 people available, as well as a group room. It is not currently possible to reserve these individual workstations. The computer terminals are designed exclusively for catalogue searches and consulting e-resources. A personal ZHdK login is required to use the eight Mac workstations on the ground and gallery floors. Records can be transferred to CDs or to a user's own computer at the digitization workstation on floor G. Blank CDs (CD-ROMs) are available in packets of ten in the ITZ shop on the fourth floor.
