Landscape visualization

In the study specialization called “Scientific Visualization” at the Department of Design, a project team studied landscape depiction in various eras. People with a design or science background analysed the connection between the type of illustration and its intended effect. This resulted in a collection of materials created mainly by Karen Kägi for her Master's thesis and Oliver Emch in this project. In order to categorize the collected images in terms of content, and bring some kind of order to the diversity of the depictions, they created a schema for describing historic and contemporary landscape visualizations.

When it comes to this kind of work, the Media Archive offers a way of preserving and visualizing the knowledge that has been gained in a particular field, using a project-specific lexicon. Susanne Schumacher and Oliver Emch developed an appropriate specialist lexicon using the example of landscape visualization.
