    Levels of digitality

    Almost all levels of our personal, professional and social lives are today influenced by digitality. The parameters of new technologies, different forms of their use and application and the social, cultural and societal meanings of the digital are essentially linked and constantly influence one another. A common vocabulary and an understanding of the levels of digitality are, therefore, the prerequisites for understanding these interactions and for shaping them constructively.

    Technological level

    The possibilities, but also the limitations of digital technologies determine possible ways of working and thinking and thus have far-reaching implications for the culture of digitality.

    Personal level

    Digitality shapes almost all aspects of our lives. A conscious use of applications and an enlightened, critical attitude are essential for establishing a meaningful culture of digitality, both on an individual and on an institutional level.

    Interpersonal level

    In our private as well as in our professional lives, digital technologies determine the interpersonal level and in this way influence work cultures and cultures of collaboration and communication.

    Institutional level

    At ZHdK, like at any other instution, we face the challenge of engaging strategically with the possibilities of digitality, implementing new technologies in a meaningful way and promoting a culture of conscious and constructive use of digital tools.

    Specialist community level

    Each subject area and each academic and artistic discipline has its own demands and its own possible applications of digital technologies, and thus establishes a characteristic culture of use, as well as a specific discourse on the digital.

    Societal level

    At ZHdK, we understand digitality not only as a personal and institutional challenge, but as a social task to which we, as an art academy, have a duty to contribute. Thus, we always aim for a view on the digital which includes a theoretical and historical perspective and a critical understanding of the fundamental questions of the digital age.
