The Museum für Gestaltung Zürich is the leading Swiss museum for design and visual communication. It has three locations: its main building on Ausstellungsstrasse, the location in the Toni-Areal and the Pavillon Le Corbusier.
It has a unique profile in the Swiss and international context of design and architecture museums. Integrated into the ZHdK's Department of Cultural Analyses, the museum guarantees an exciting exchange between research, teaching and communication. Its exhibition programme is characterised by an open attitude towards all areas of design and is primarily committed to the present and modernism. The main areas are design, visual communication and architecture.
In the Toni-Areal, the museum preserves its internationally significant collection of graphic art and design history - with over 500,000 objects. These include one of the world's largest poster collections and an outstanding collection of decorative arts.
The permanent exhibition Swiss Design Collection shows around 2500 selected exhibits from the fields of graphic design, typography, poster art, textile design, product design and applied arts. Temporary installations also constantly open up new perspectives on the diverse collection. A special highlight: visitors can discover the stored objects up close in the newly accessible archive. The collection is also open to research and teaching and invites visitors to actively explore and think about design history.
