    Introduction to the MIZ library

    • MIZcovery

      Location: MIZ Gruppenraum 5.T104

      Target Audience: Staff and students who would like to learn more about the resources, facilities and services available at the MIZ library.

      Content: This course introduces the MIZ library as a modern space for study and research, as well as a treasure trove of both digital and traditional resources and an inspiring place for creative exchange across disciplines. Participants will gain an overview of the facilities and services the library and archives at the ZHdK offer.

    Databases and Research Skills

    • Getting started with Databases

      Location: MIZ Gruppenraum 5.T104

      Target Audience:Staff and students who would like to learn more about scientific databases and how they can facilitate research.

      Content: With ArtSource and JSTOR, this course introduces two of the leading research databases in the arts. Participants will be given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with their functionalities and gain the skills to locate relevant information for their research topics.

      Target Audience: Staff and students who would like to get an overview of the research possibilities on image databases.

      Content: The course introduces image databases as a source of visual teaching and learning material and teaches basic skills for researching and using electronic image material.

      Target Audience: Staff and students who would like to get an overview of the research possibilities on music databases.

      Content: The course introduces various electronic resources for searching sheet music, sound and video recordings, sources and scholarly texts on all branches of music.

      Target Audience: Students who want to familiarise themselves with the basic rules of citation.

      Content: The course raises awareness of the principles and also problems of academic citation and gives practical advice on citation technique and plagiarism avoidance.

    • Getting started with Mendeley

      Location: MIZ Gruppenraum 5.T104

      Target Audience: Staff and students who are interested in working with the reference manager Mendeley and would like to get an overview of its functionalities.

      Content: This course introduces Mendeley, the reference manager licensed by the ZHdK, and gives you the basic skills to use the programme in order to import, manage and cite documents and references.

    • Material Archive

      Faciliator: Franziska Mรผller-Reissmann

      Location: MIZ, Material Archive, Gallery Floor G51

      Target Audience: Persons who would like to get an overview of the focal points of the ZHdK collection of the material archive and the functionalities of the database.

      Content: The material archive is a network of various collections from the fields of architecture, art and design. The online database provides basic information and examples on the diverse applications of materials. This introduction presents the materials of the ZHdK collection, introduces the use of the samples and the database and, last but not least, encourages you to make your own discoveries.

    • Media Archive

      Target Audience: Students as well as administrative and academic staff of the ZHdK who like to get an overview of the functionalities and possibilities of the Media Archive of the Arts.

      Content: The Media Archive as a stage for your artistic or academic work at the ZHdK. The introduction offers an overview of how images, videos, audio files and documents can be used and archived together in the Media Archive.

    • Advice on Managing and Archiving Documents

      Faciliator: Rolf Wolfensberger

      Location: MIZ Gruppenraum 5.T104

      Target Audience: Individuals and departments who would like to find out how they can better manage digital and analogue documents; with an insight into the archiving processes at the ZHdK.

      Content: At the ZHdK, documents and works are produced in analogue and digital form every day. These must be managed clearly and stored securely. The ZHdK Archive takes care of their indexing, mediation and long-term preservation. The course provides an overview of the documentation and archive environment at the ZHdK and the tools and guidelines provided for this purpose.

      Target Audience: Members of the ZHdK who would like to get to know the Curating Degree Zero Archive.

      Content: The course provides an insight into the history and holdings of the archive and introduces electronic research of the contents.
