    Content

Holders of the โ€œMaster of Advanced Studies in Music Practice/Jazz and Pop Performanceโ€ demonstrate a personal connection to the field in which they completed their course of study, and present a paper which comprehensively outlines and explores a theoretical and/or practical focus related to the field in question.

      Structure

The MAS module runs for one semester. Students who complete it successfully are awarded an โ€œMaster of Advanced Studies in Music Practice/Jazz and Pop Performance". As part of the MAS module, candidates realize a practical project (performance) and write 12-15 pages of documentation.

A total of eight mentoring hours are available for the MAS module. These can be used to supervise the practical project and/or the written documentation. The choice of mentor depends on individual needs and is determined in consultation with the Head of Continuing Education in Music.

        Qualification

With the successful completion of the MAS module, the skills acquired in the continuing education degree programme are summarized and the student is awarded a โ€œMaster of Advanced Studies (MAS)". The module is worth 15 ECTS points.

The MAS degree with Core Subject Jazz and Pop Performance consists of two parts:

        1. 45-minute performance
Conception, development and presentation of a 45-minute performance.
Students may choose the works themselves and discuss them with the lecturer teaching the major as well as the Head of Continuing Education Music upon registering for the MAS degree. The performance should reflect the individual profile of the student.
        2. Written documentation
Written documentation of 12-15 pages (excl. pictures and appendix). The paper should document the studentโ€™s personal connection to their programme of choice and the individual artistic focus. Furthermore, it should highlight a programme element โ€“ this can take the form of an analytical and/or a theory-/content-based reflection on the major work or a group of works or an explanation of the entire programme concept and its specific development or the design of a programme for the MAS degree performance.

          Eligibility and admission requirements

Admission to the โ€˜Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Music Practice/Performance Jazz and Popโ€™ is usually decided by an admission audition lasting 20-30 minutes in front of the Head of Continuing Education in Music, the Director of Studies and the lecturer of the major subject. It takes place in mid-May or mid-November.

            Dates

The MAS degree is offered twice a year.
