    Programme objective

    The CAS Orchestral Conducting builds on an individual assessment and includes the following learning objectives:

    Orchestral Conducting (Basic)

    • Application of a simple, effective baton technique in the established professional field
    • Detailed analysis of choral scores of moderate difficulty
       

    Orchestral Conducting (Intermediate)

    • Knowledge and application of the entire field of baton technique
    • Ability to fully perform orchestral scores up to the highest level of difficulty occurring in the amateur context
    • Knowledge of basic orchestra rehearsal work, including unfamiliar instrumental ensembles
       

    Orchestral Conducting (Advanced)

    • Expert artistic application of the entire field of baton technique
    • The ability to work effectively and at an expert level with advanced amateur or student orchestras and with professional orchestras, both in rehearsal and in concert performances
    • Ability to perform complex scores as well (including contemporary music)

      Qualification

      The programmes are completed with a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS). The certificate describes the work performed (classroom teaching and self-study) and confirms successful participation in the course. No grade is given.

      The degree includes a written reflection on the individual learning objectives formulated at the beginning of the programme and the learning process that has taken place. This is submitted to the core subject lecturer and the study secretariat at the end of the academic year.
