Content and structure

CAS in Orchestral Conducting (basic)
This course focuses on practical ensemble work. In addition, individual lessons enable you to deepen your knowledge of the basics of orchestral conducting. The artistic direction and content of your continuing education, as well as your learning needs and goals, will be discussed and determined on an individual basis.

In addition, the major in conducting offers you the opportunity to observe and gain further valuable insights and inspiration.

CAS Orchestral Conducting (Intermediate)

In the continuation of the basic programme, you will deepen and expand the knowledge you have acquired. The high level of practical relevance through workshops with orchestras in Switzerland and as a highlight during the one-week courses abroad offers you the opportunity to get to know the professional field intensively. In practice, three to four workshops are held with orchestras in Switzerland and one to two courses abroad. Individual tuition with two individually selectable time contingents, class hours in ensemble conducting and the opportunity to sit in on the major in conducting complement the programme. The “CAS in Orchestra Conducting intermediate” is a requirement for admission to the “DAS Music Practice/Core Subject Orchestral Conducting”.

CAS Orchestral Conducting (Advanced)
This CAS is aimed at advanced conductors. You will work at an artistically high level with student and professional orchestras during several one-week courses abroad, deepening your rehearsal and concert experience, refining the artistically convincing application of your conducting technique and expanding your repertoire by studying complex scores.

At the university, you also have the opportunity to sit in on classes and masterclasses in the major in conducting, thus gaining additional insights and experience and benefiting from exchanges with students and lecturers.

The «CAS in Advanced Orchestral Conducting» is a requirement for admission to the “MAS Music Practice/Core Subject Orchestral Conducting”.

All three CAS in Orchestral Conducting conclude with a written reflection on the individual learning objectives formulated at the beginning of the course and the learning process that has taken place.
