Programme objective

The “CAS Composition” builds on an assessment. The specific target skills are based on the individual skills of the students upon admission to the course, and include the following study goals:

  • Insight into the connections between sound patterns and notation
  • Development of ideas about sound and elaboration of scores
  • Ability to shape and understand composition processes as an individual musician
  • Understanding of a wide variety of composition techniques, particularly from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries
  • Mastery of a basic repertoire from the most important genres and epochs
  • Ability to talk about the main aspects of a piece of music using analytical means, without any input from others

    Qualification

    The programme concludes with a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS). The certificate describes the work involved (classroom teaching and self-study) and confirms successful participation in the course. No grade is given.

    The certificate is completed a written reflection on the individual learning objectives formulated at the beginning of the course and the learning process that has taken place. This is submitted to the core subject lecturer and the administration office at the end of the academic year.
