    Content and structure

The significance of motion design has increased considerably in recent years, and it is now an indispensable component of visual communication. Whether they are used on social media, websites or apps or to convey information on digital posters or infographics: animations attract attention, intensify emotions, simplify complex content and open up almost unlimited design opportunities. They extend designers’ repertoire and help them to bring static content to life.

Participants are empowered to apply movement as a conscious design element and use animations as a strategic communication tool – whether it is in the context of branding, conveying information, prototyping or artistic work.

The CAS Motion Design is divided into two study blocks.

      • Study block A: Basic Motion Design

The modules in study block A, Basic Motion Design, encompass training in, understanding, learning and use of timing, movement and acceleration (kinetics) in connection with the underlying principles of motion design. This includes the use of design and animation software (especially After Effects), the creation of animated content using keyframes, as well as the use of plug-ins and effects. In addition, the fundamentals of moving images and production processes are taught, leading to the technically flawless output of animations. On top of this, the use of sound, including its editing and composition, and the creation of sound tracks for animations using sound design are also explored.

      • Study block B: Advanced Motion Design

The modules in study block B, Advanced Motion Design, build on the basics and offer comprehensive insights into the vast world of animated graphics. The focus is always on professional practice and its requirements. The content centres around developing your own methods to create animations and extending your animation vocabulary on an ongoing basis. The modules include the creation and conceptual, targeted use of animated typography and graphical composition as well as the use of motion design as an interdisciplinary tool (e.g. to convey complex interactions in user interfaces). The content is supplemented by insights into coded/programmed animations as well as the development of a motion design language using explorative analogue and digital experiments. In the process, proven animation methods and technical aids are drawn on in the modules. Software knowledge and tools are also taught.
