The CAS Design Thinking is structured into a total of seven workshop modules, each of which takes place from Thursday to Saturday, from  9 am to 4.30 pm (subject to change). One module takes place only on Thursday and Friday.

    Module 1

    Introduction, basics and principles

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 11.–13.9.2025
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Sat, 10.–12.9.2026

In the introductory module, we delve into the central principles and phases of design thinking and solve initial problems. Why design thinking? And when can this creative and user-centred approach be used effectively?

    Module 2

    Processes, methods, tools

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 25.–27.9.2025
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Fr, 24.–25.9.2026

The focus is on applying selected strategic design methods to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of users. This module focuses on designing iterative processes, precisely identifying problems and making ideas tangible through prototyping.

    Module 3

    Circular Design

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 23.–25.10.2025
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Sat, 22.–24.10.2026

Circular Design expands the approach of design thinking to include aspects of circular models and forms an essential basis at the interface of entrepreneurship, sustainability and social innovation. This module focuses on testing the application of co-creation methods and participatory strategies.

    Module 4

    Innovation Sprint

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 13.–15.11.2025
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Sat, 12.–14.11.2026

Innovation development is closely linked to workshop formats such as sprints, in which teams work on new product and service ideas within a specific time frame and location. Participants immerse themselves in various design-oriented strategy, innovation and business development formats and learn to apply tools from product, service and UX design, both analogue and digital.

    Module 5

    Design Thinking Challenge

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 4.–6.12.2025
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Sat, 3.–5.12.2026

Participants demonstrate how they can apply what they have learned by addressing a real-life problem from a context of their choice. Working in interdisciplinary teams, they develop innovative solutions and present them in the form of a project pitch to the client and an expert audience.

    Module 6

    Reflection, communication and storytelling

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 8.–10.1.2026
    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 14.–16.1.2027

This module focuses on reflecting on personal learning experiences. Using their own project work as examples, participants discuss specific challenges in implementing and establishing design thinking. The focus is on storytelling as a tool for making complex issues understandable and creating impact.

    Module 7

    Strategic Design Festival

    Class of 2025/26 – Thurs–Sat, 29.–31.1.2026
    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs–Sat, 4.–6.2.2027

In the final module, we celebrate the different profiles that have emerged over the past few months. Participants present the essence of their design thinking projects and look back on their individual development paths. Participants receive their certificates in a festive setting, rounded off by a keynote speech from a guest speaker.

    Open project workshop

    Project work

    Class of 2026/27 – Thurs, 19.11.2026 and 10.12.2027 (1.30–4.30 p.m.)

The two project workshops serve as a forum for informal exchange with mentors during the preparation of individual project work.
