Admissions procedure and enrolment

  • Homework
  • Workbook/Portfolio
  • Admissions interview

Admission to the Preparatory Courses in Art and Design is based on a set assignment, a workbook or portfolio, and an admissions interview (also known as an 'examination interview').

Homework

The assignment will be made available once you have completed online registration and submitted the required documents.

Workbook/Portfolio

Your portfolio should provide an up-to-date and personal representation of your creative work.

  • Media: It may contain drawings, paintings (analogue or digital), three-dimensional works (documented photographically), films, animations (on a USB stick, DVD, or via a link), photographs, collages, and so on. Sketchbooks and works created as part of the creative process are also welcome.
  • Quantity: You can decide how many pieces to showcase. We recommend a portfolio containing eight to ten substantial pieces.
  • Format: The portfolio should be organised and structured. Please ensure that it can be packed and unpacked quickly and easily. Three-dimensional works must be photographed for documentation purposes. Films should be formatted so that they play without any problems on any computer. Ideally, they should be provided on a storage device (e.g. a USB stick). Ideally, websites should also be saved as URLs in a text file.

Admissions interview

The admission interview lasts no longer than half an hour and is conducted by two lecturers from the preparatory course. It covers the results of the set assignment, the work submitted, and the reasons for wanting to take part in the course.

Sur Dossier

A subsequent bachelor’s degree programme in art or design at Swiss universities of applied sciences generally requires a vocational baccalaureate or a general upper secondary school leaving certificate. Applicants without a school leaving certificate have the option of applying to the universities ‘on the strength of their portfolio’ – by providing evidence of exceptional creative or artistic achievement or talent. The exact conditions for this can be enquired about directly with the respective degree programmes.
