This research project investigates live coding as a compositional tool for acoustic music rather than a performance practice. It develops a methodology in which real-time algorithmic pattern manipulation generates material for notated chamber works. Drawing on Laurie Spiegel’s Manipulations of Musical Patterns (1981), the research examines how live coding can expand instrumental writing, reshape compositional agency, and bridge computational and acoustic practices. Through practice-based research involving instrumental exploration, algorithmic design in SuperCollider, and collaboration with performers, the project will produce several chamber compositions and a transferable conceptual framework linking algorithmic thinking with contemporary instrumental composition.
