MA Theatre

Our MA Theatre provides state-of-the-art training in theatre and is firmly based on the latest theories of the performing arts. Two specialisations are available: acting and leading artist. The notion of theatre underlying our specialisations adds to the canon of theatre art both new formats and experimental, research-based forms of work.  Besides offering specific training in one of four profiles—directing, stage design, dramaturgy, and theatre education—our leading artist programme equips students with the skills needed to work across and between the various disciplines in today's interdisciplinary art and cultural context.

Our MA Theatre is designed to help students deepen and expand their creative, theoretical, and methodological skills. Coursework focuses on developing individual interests and provides ample opportunity for practical application. While we foster critical reflection and cooperation across and within theatre, our programme also encourages collaboration with other disciplines. Cooperation with the Master Campus and our partner universities, as well as active exchange within Zurich University of the Arts, enrich a programme designed to build team and communication skills and to  provide optimal career-entry qualifications.

We boast an excellent faculty from across the arts and sciences, dedicated to offering close individual supervision aimed at nurturing students creativity, originality, self-responsibility, team and research skills. Our Institute of Performing Arts (ipf), the department's designated research institute, plays a crucial role in our programme's continuous endeavour to deliver on its promises.
